iToner | get ringtones on your iPhone

This isn't a regular podcast post but when we come across cool little gadgets it's had not to shout about it to everyone else. If, like us, you've been bummed that you can only get iTunes store music as your iPhone ringtone, be bummed no more. With iToner you can have Sun Ra chime when the missus calls, Amp Fiddler can be your booty call jingle, and MF Doom can spit when your turntablist chums holler.

It's a no hack situation so you don't have to worry about voiding your warranty. It's very simple, find yourself a suitably amusing or fitting mp3, edited it down to 10-15 seconds with any music program like Garage Band and plug your iPhone into your Mac (iToner is Mac only), load up iToner and drag and drop your newly created ringtones and you're good to go. Now you just need someone to call you!

iToner comes from the nice people at Ambrosia Software (who are among others creators of the very cool Sketch Fighter game) and they're offering iToner for $15 and there's a 30 day fully functioning demo you can use to try it out for free! Now go and get that fresh white label you picked up at the store yesterday ripped and downloaded to your iPhone. Friends will be jealous.

We took a look back at what 2007 had to offer in a two part series. Up first is surprisingly part 1. 2007 was a pretty good year for us at playjazzloud HQ, from new music to rediscoveries there were a lot of mp3s, CDs and vinyls knocking around, so much so that it was pretty hard to even try to fit everything into two mixes. Apologies in advance to the great pieces of music from 2007 that weren't missed.

1. Build an Ark "Sunshine"
2. Buggie Wesseltoft "Joi"
3. Elmore Judd "Happy Bass Caravan"
4. Lorez Alexandria "I'm Wishin"
5. Marco Polo ft. J Davey "Relax"
6. Guilty Simpson "Make it Fast"
7. Mark Ronson "Toxic"
8. Supreme Team "Volta Por Cima"
9. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings "100 Days and 100 Nights"
10. The Heliocentrics "Flight 583"
11. The Heliocentrics "Age of the Sun"
12. Bibi Tanga "Ladybird"
13. Jose Gonzalez "Down the Line"
14. Radiohead "House of Cards"
15. Mr. Beatnik "What's Going On Reconstruction"
16. 4 Hero ft. J Davey "Take my Time"
17. Rejazz "People Hold On"
18. Grandmagneto "Night Fever"
19. Amy Winehouse "Love is a losing game"

runtime: an hour ish.

Enjoy! and please hit us up with comments. Part 2 will be out next week.

It's February 14th. Time for the "lurve" songs. Hope you guys enjoy this, it's a mix of a lot of styles but why not, right? How often do I get to put The Jesus and Mary Chain on the same mix as Stevie Wonder and Tribe on the same tracklist as The Smiths. Not often. Not exactly a valentine themed mix per say but there're connections.

It's a new year and there's that brand new impetus to get regular with the postings and the podcasts (well technically they're just mixes). So to that end here's post #2. It started out as left overs from my 2007 rewind mix but after the first two tracks I realised there was something wrong with Scratch Live on my Mac and it wasn't going to play any mp3s for me that night so I turned around and dug through the boxes of records in the basement that are in transit to a new shelving system and aside from dusting off the Cleo Laine and Esther Phillips tracks I hit the mid-late 90s box of French house music. Score.

The likes of Bob Sinclar, Etienne de Crecy, Julien Jabre and St. Germain were some of the many producers coming out from France at the time that were the soundtrack to my life. Versatile Records, Yellow Productions, Cassius Records, F Communications, and many others brought an exciting French sound to house music and paved the way for super groups like Daft Punk and Air to reach the mass audience they deserved.

Now once i got started on this mini memory trip I ran across some DJ Krush and some Carleen Anderson who were both big music back then and they still sound amazingly fresh today.

Click here to download to your computer or use flash player above to listen right now!

1. The Cannonball Adderley Quintet "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy"
2. Jimi Tenor "Sunrise"
3. Cleo Laine "Please don't talk about me when I'm gone"
4. Esther Philips "Home is where the hatred is"
5. Roisin Murphy "If we're in love" (Herbert's lovers remix)
6. Henrik Schwarz "Leave my head alone brain" (Mix 1)
7. Etienne de Crecy "Prix Choc"
8. Bob Sinclar "Lonely in LA"
9. Julien Jabre "Sun is back"
10. St. Germain "Montego Bay Spleen"
11. TY "The Tale"
12. DJ Krush "Ruff Neck Jam"
13. Carleen Anderson "True Spirit" (Domino Mix)
14. The Blackbyrds "Walking in Rhythm"

Enjoy!
