Soul has been a great discovery, if you like black music (soul, funk, jazz and other styles) it is a must watch. Here's a little blurb from their site about the show.

"This entertainment-variety-talk show was not only a vehicle to promote African-American artistry, community and culture, but also a platform for political expression and the fight for social justice. It showcased classic live musical performances from funk, soul, jazz, and world musicians, and had in-depth, extraordinary interviews with political, sports, literary figures and more. It was the first program on WNET to be recorded with the then-new technology of videotape, and most of the shows were recorded in real-time—not live, but unedited."

I think we will be posting more of these as the weeks go by. Enjoy. Follow this link below to catch an episode with New Birth, the Nite-Liters and more.

London Pirate Frequencies

Been a big fan of pirate radio since early 90s and it's a shame it's really just a london phenomenon and has never caught on elsewhere as pirate radio is one of the main reasons why fresh music is coming out of the UK.

playjazzloud sessions Vol. 36

Starting this week there will be a twice monthly playjazzloud special edition podcast hosted over at Basement Sessions, it was really nice of those guys to invite us and it'll be a pleasure dropping some leftfield sounds on their site and hoping I don't alienate all those hip hop heads over there! So this week's mix was first hosted over at Basement Sessions and there's definitely more of a nod towards the hip hop sounds with new music from Erykah Badu, Mavis (aka Ashley Beedle) and Bonobo. Another great track from the "We made this Vol. 1" compilation out of brownswood.co.uk and there's room for a cheeky Jay-Z and Fela mash up as well as a couple of good finds from SoundCloud from d'Wala and Touchsoul. Enjoy. Listen below or download from here, you can also check the sessions out at Basement Sessions.

Mavis - Puzzles and Riddles
Bonobo - Prelude
Bonobo - Kiara
Surra - Aletheia
Carlos Nino & Migel Atwood Ferguson - Antiquity (d'Wala Re-Edit)
Massive Attack - Atlas Air (Lavender Jungle Remix by Jneiro Jarel)
Jay-Z ft. Fela Kuti - Blue Magic (Mike Love's Nigerian Gangster mix)
Erykah Badu - Turn me away
Blizt the Ambassador - Remembering the Future (Live with 12 piece band)
