playjazzloud sessions vol. 74 [Folk sessions pt 2]

We just had the very un-super moon last night and now it's just rain rain rain. But out of that comes (hopefully) some fantastic music for you. I'm kicking off with a dirty dark blues track from director David Lynch and then slipping into a couple dubstep tracks with the always excellent Mount Kimbie, definitely check their album. A little jazz makes it into the set before hitting some disco, house, and Detroit jams from Moodymann & Theo Parrish. It's a return for my indie folk/singer song writer series. I hope you dig the jams as much as I do. Enjoy and until next week.

playjazzloud sessions vol. 73

Three things to take care of this week even though I made the mix a week ago :)

1st up I have a couple of CDs to give away for the very catchy Lylit with her EP "Unexpected." I've dropped "Change" in this week's podcast and it is one of seven jazzy & soulful grooves. A new album is dropping this month I believe. Find out everything www.lylit.com. To get yourself a copy just be one of the first two people to drop me a line at jc at playjazzloud dot com.

2nd thing to deal with is the tragedy that continues to unfold over in Japan. Truly shocking. I've dropped a bunch of Japanese jazz this week towards the end of the show. Thoughts out to everybody over there.

3rd please check out my mix for the Medolica DJ Competition over at MixCloud, give it a play and spread as every listen counts. http://tinyurl.com/MixCloudMedolica
This week I have more music from the great James Blake album plus a new album from Manchester's Rise as well as LA based King. Some classic jazz-funk and trip-hop from back in the day with DJ Shadow and Marden Hill. Until next week. Listen above or download here.

playjazzloud sessions Melodica DJ Competition

Hey folks regular service will resume next week as I'll have time to drop a mix on Sunday. In the meantime here's a mix I did a couple nights ago for a DJ competition running over at MixCloud that supports the Chris Coco night happening at the Stop Making Sense Music Festival.

I love the type of music on the Medolica show so this was a perfect competition to knock out a quick mix for. This was the first set I came up with and I was thinking it was just going to be a warm up as I figured out what tracks to include in 30 mins and well it's not perfect but then it's spontaneous and it works (for me at least). So here it is. Enjoy. Every play and favorite counts towards winning so there'll be no download until after the competition closes.

PJL Intro
Miguel Atwood Ferguson & Carlos Nino "Antiquity" (D'Wala Edit)
Nora Jones "Salida del Sol"
Sebastien Tellier "La Ritournelle"
Radiohead "Separator"
I:Cube "Faling"
Amp Dog Knight "I'm doing fine"
Seiji ft. Q-Tip "Loose Tips"
Mavis ft. Candi Staton "Revolution" (DarkStarr remix)
