playjazzloud sessions vol. 68 "quiet" music feature

As January wraps up here is my final installment for the month and as it's a pretty chilly and rainy day in LA the feature in this week's mix is an hour of "quiet music," ranging from jazz to modern classical and soundtrack.

I knew it was going to get a little quiet later on in the mix so we start off with a bang from Andre 3000 with "Love Hater" before hitting a left over track that I wanted to play in last week's spiritual jazz feature from Leon Thomas. After that it's off to a few funky tracks including an oldie from the great Young Disciples. Then I'm hitting you with an hour's worth of quality peaceful jams from Matthew Halsall (doing Cinematic Orchestra), Miles Davis, Charlie Haden, Quiet Village, as well as a new project from UK artist d'Wala (you may remember a J Dilla/Miguel Atwood Ferguson edit of his I played a few times last year) called Pinot Dark. Look for this in 2011. Enjoy and see you in Feburary! Listen above or download from here. It'll be on SoundCloud later in the week so check it there if that's your preference. Don't forget you can always subscribe to the iTunes feed.

playjazzloud sessions vol. 67 (Spiritual Jazz Special)

This week I've put together a mix of new tunes crossing my inbox and then taking a quick turn to bring you almost an hour's worth of spritual jazz in the second half of the podcast. The Bahama Soul Club has been doing great things from Europe of late with a new album and here's a taste of a remix project they are putting together for release soon. The track I'm dropping this week is the Goldfingermix of "Tangossa" from Acusmatic Group and this James Bond sounding retouch is exactly the way to kick off this week's show. I heard this great Jeremy Sole edit of Marvin Gaye's "Anger" and as I can't get a hold of that version I've included the original. Featured throughout the spiritual jazz selection are poems by the great Sara Webster Fabio. Finally wrapping up the set is another UniverSouLove & The Hedonist collaboration, this time giving Jose James' "Warrior" the poetary treatment. Enjoy until next week. playjazzloud sessions vol. 65

First selection of the new year and I'm startig off with a few tunes from Africa before heading down the usual jazz road with some indie rock thrown in for good measure. A couple of tracks that didn't make it into the 2010 rewind selection get a spin including Jamiroquai, as always quality music from them. In the final hour I'm doing a little feature on music I've discovered and downloaded from SoundCloud. Lots of these are edits and remixes of soul, disco and boogie tunes but there are a couple of originals in there as well. SoudCloud is definitely a great community and a great place to find up and coming artists doing their thing. Please check it out and support the artists by leaving comments and sharing with friends. Follow this link to my SoundCloud page where you will be able to find a lot of good music I've saved under my favorites tab. Radio may be dead in many parts of the world but there are still ways to discover great music online. Hope you enjoy this first selection of 2011.
